The JISCMail service is operated by the Science and Technology Facilities Council on behalf of JISC Advance. We are committed to respecting your privacy and to complying with applicable data protection and privacy laws. You can be assured that any information you provide to us will be used strictly in accordance with the terms laid out in this Privacy Statement.

What personal data do we collect?

JISCMail maintains continuous logs of its web server and other software usage. These log files may include items such as your IP address, browser type, screen size, and details of activities performed on our systems, etc. These logs are used to monitor how the system is being used by visitors, to improve the service and for troubleshooting.

Personal data may also be held when you request a new mailing list, and this is used solely for evaluating the request. Our surveys system and message archives may contain personal information, if you have chosen to disclose such details.

How do we use your personal data

We will use your personal details to provide the JISCMail services you have requested. From time to time JISCMail may use the information to contact users in order to make important service announcements, for housekeeping exercises, or for user-feedback related exercises.

JISCMail does not sell or otherwise transfer any personal data to commercial companies or other organisations, other than in connection with the provision of the JISCMail and related services. We may however be obliged to disclose personal information to meet with any legal or regulatory requirements or obligations in accordance with UK law or our service contract.

Cookies

Cookies are small pieces of text information that a web server sends to your browser, and which are saved onto your computer for later retrieval. The JISCMail website uses cookies to store any 'Favorites' links you might have. Also, the LISTSERV® web interface uses cookies to store your login information to enable you to be logged in automatically next time you visit the site.

Whilst we do not recommend you do so, most web browsers allow you to turn off cookies. If you want to know how to do this please look at the help menu on your browser or contact your local technical support staff.

We recognise that our customers are increasingly concerned about how companies protect personal information from misuse and abuse and about privacy in general. We are constantly reviewing and enhancing our technical, physical and managerial procedures and rules to protect your personal data from unauthorised access, accidental loss and/or destruction.
